Indian military personnel arrived in the Maldives, on Friday, to partake in the annual training program ‘Exercise Ekuverin’, conducted by the Indian and Maldivian military.
According to Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), 45 Indian military personnel from the 17th Battalion of the Madras Regiment are arranged to partake in this training program that will be held in Maafilaafushi, Lhaviyani atoll, from December 15 until December 27.
The annual training program will be carried out under the instructions of seasoned military personnel and military veterans from both India and Maldives.
The main objectives of the annual training is to strengthen the military alliance between both countries as well as to practice joint operations such as Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency.
As stated by MNDF, the training program will include Waterborne Operations and other Military Operations as well.
In addition to Maafilaafushi, MNDF stated that the training program will also be carried out in select uninhabited islands of Lhaviyani Atoll.
‘Exercise Ekuverin’, is a training program that has been carried out annually beginning in 2009.
The current administration holds the strongest alliance with India. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is scheduled to have his first official trip to India, on December 16, since being sworn into office on November 17.
