Indian Army Acquires 14 Acres Land In Arunachal Pradesh

New Delhi: The Indian Army has acquired around 14 acres of land in the West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, as part of its ongoing efforts to further fortify its presence along the borders, sources said.

The Army would be using the land acquired to construct buildings for its units deployed near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. The Army has two of its companies looking after Arunachal Pradesh including the Dimapur-based 3 Corps and Tezpur-based 4 Corps.

Both the corps have deployed themselves in the forward locations at the moment in view of the ongoing boundary dispute between them in Eastern Ladakh and other areas.

In the conflict, the Indian armed forces have positioned their forward formations in a high meet mode even during the harshest winters.

The two sides are in a conflict situation since April-May of 2020. India has reacted strongly to China’s attempts to unilaterally change the status quo.

From 5 May 2020, Chinese and Indian troops engaged in face-offs at locations along the Sino-Indian border, including near the disputed Pangong Lake in Ladakh and the Tibet Autonomous Region, and near the border between Sikkim and Tibet Autonomous Region. Clashes also took occurred at places in eastern Ladakh along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

The June clash between Indian and Chinese troops left at least 20 Indian soldiers and an unknown number of Chinese troops dead.The trigger for this clash is said to be India’s construction of a new road to a high-altitude air base.

In August, India accused China of provoking military tensions at the border twice within a week. China denied both allegations and blamed India for the stand-off.

In September, China accused India of firing shots at its troops. India accused China of firing into the air.

The most recent clash occurred on 20 January this year, which left troops injured on both sides. It took place along the border in Sikkim.
