ndia and Azerbaijan on April 3, 2026 held a comprehensive review of bilateral relations in Baku, covering a wide range of areas including trade, technology, tourism, pharmaceuticals, culture, people-to-people ties and cooperation against cross-border terrorism. The discussions took place during the 6th round of Foreign Office Consultations between the two countries.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Secretary (West) Sibi George co-chaired the consultations with Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov. The two sides reviewed the current state of bilateral ties and exchanged views on regional and global issues of shared interest.
During the visit, Sibi George also called on Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and separately met Hikmet Hajiyev, Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of Azerbaijan. The engagements underlined both countries’ intent to sustain diplomatic dialogue and deepen cooperation across strategic and economic sectors.
The consultations come at a time when India is seeking to widen its engagement across Eurasia through stronger political outreach, commercial links and sector-specific partnerships. The agenda discussed in Baku suggests that both sides are looking to give broader shape to the relationship beyond routine diplomacy, with growing emphasis on practical cooperation in business, connectivity, culture and security-related concerns. That last point is an inference from the subjects listed in the official report.
