India and Denmark Deepen MSME Cooperation in Innovation, Technology and Intellectual Property

India and Denmark have moved to strengthen bilateral cooperation in MSME development, innovation and intellectual property, with the fourth meeting of the India–Denmark Joint Working Group held in Copenhagen from 24 to 28 August 2026.

The meeting brought together India’s Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and the Danish Patent and Trademark Office, with discussions focused on technology adoption, innovation, intellectual property rights, technology commercialisation, entrepreneurship and cluster-based development for small and medium enterprises.

The Indian delegation was led by Dr Rajneesh, Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner in the Ministry of MSME, while the Danish side included senior officials from the Danish Patent and Trademark Office and the Royal Danish Embassy. India’s Ambassador to Denmark, Manish Prabhat, also participated in the engagements.

As part of the programme, the Indian delegation visited Aarhus University Innovation Kitchen and Agro Food Park to study Denmark’s approach to innovation support, startup mentoring, industry-academia collaboration and cluster-based business development. These interactions provided both sides with an opportunity to exchange practical experiences on strengthening entrepreneurial ecosystems and helping MSMEs adopt new technologies.

The delegation also held discussions with Denmark’s Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs on business development, innovation and the SME ecosystem. In addition, Indian representatives participated in the Nordic–India Startup Summit 2026 organised by TechBBQ, engaging with startups, investors and innovation stakeholders from across the Nordic region.

The concluding Joint Working Group discussions reviewed progress made under earlier engagements and identified priorities for future cooperation. Both sides agreed on the importance of expanding institutional linkages and developing new areas of collaboration under the existing bilateral framework.

The meeting reflects the broader India–Denmark effort to promote innovation-led and intellectual-property-driven growth among MSMEs, while building stronger connections between startups, research institutions, industry clusters and technology ecosystems in the two countries.

By combining India’s large and diverse MSME base with Denmark’s experience in innovation, intellectual property and cluster development, the partnership has the potential to support technology adoption, commercialisation and greater international competitiveness among small and medium enterprises.
