India is participating in the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal representing the country in discussions on global trade, supply-chain resilience and the multilateral trading system.
The meeting, held on September 30 and October 1, 2026, brings together trade ministers from G20 economies. India has reiterated support for a rules-based, transparent and equitable trading system centred on the World Trade Organization, while stressing the need to preserve development space for emerging economies.
India Pushes Its Trade Priorities
Discussions in Milwaukee include resilient supply chains, industrial capacity, food trade and global trade rules.
India’s position combines support for predictable international trade with protection of legitimate policy space for developing countries. New Delhi has also continued to emphasise fair market access and a stronger role for emerging economies in shaping global trade governance.
Goyal Engages US Industry
Ahead of the ministerial, Goyal participated in a business roundtable hosted by the National Association of Manufacturers and met senior representatives of major US companies.
The discussions focused on investment, manufacturing, technology and resilient supply chains, with India highlighting opportunities for deeper US participation in its industrial and technology sectors.
India-US Trade Talks Continue
Goyal also met US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on the sidelines of the meeting as India and the United States continued negotiations on an interim trade arrangement.
The talks are part of the wider effort to advance a bilateral trade framework and address outstanding issues between the two countries.
Trade Diplomacy Beyond the Ministerial
India is also using the G20 meeting for bilateral engagement with other partners and international business leaders.
The Milwaukee visit reflects India’s effort to combine multilateral trade diplomacy with investment outreach, bilateral negotiations and its push to strengthen India’s role in global manufacturing and supply chains.
