AGRA: Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama on Sunday said that India is a perfect example of religious tolerance and the world should learn from it.
Addressing people at the Raman Reti ashram in Mathura, he said, “In India different religious traditions are followed and people live together with due respect to each other and the world should learn from it.”
The spiritual leader said that the “our” practice of “Karuna” (compassion) and “ahinsa” (non-violence) is what the world needs today. “We need to spread Karuna and ahinsa not to preserve our own traditions, but also to bring peace across the world, as too much violence is happening around the world,” he said, adding that there is need for peace.
Stressing on importance of Ahinsa and Karuna, he further said that these two principles of life should have been incorporated in modern education system. “While science, technology, and economics are important for studies in the present system, at the same time our own 1000 years old traditions- Karuna and Ahinsa should also be part of the education system,” he added.
Earlier, he said, “Indian culture is an ancient one and there is need to preserve it and incorporate it in our daily lives”. He added that India has become a powerful nation due to its culture and traditions.
He was welcomed by head of the ashram, Gurusharnanad Maharaj. The spiritual leader will stay in Mathura till Monday and will interact with noted saints and spiritual leaders.
