IAF to Conduct Exercise in Pokhran from Today with 40 Fighter Jets

After Balakot strike the Indian Air Force (IAF) is trying to increase its firing capacity and capability. The exercise will begin from July 3 and will carry on for 40 days.

In the coming days, apart from a joint Army exercise with France, the IAF’s Tactics and Air Combat Development Establishment (TACDE) will also conduct exercise at Pokhran Field Firing Range in Jaisalmer district. Over 40 guns, fighter planes, fight helicopters and goods carrier planes will also be included in this exercise.

Sources said that the IAF is striving to strengthen its firing capability for which personnel are engaged in different exercises and firing practices. July 3 will see flight weapon release exercise which will be a training program. Apart from this air-to-ground firing will also be demonstrated.

Under combat concept the IAF will demonstrate its firing capacity with fighter planes, fighter helicopters where dummy targets will be hit. Here, indigenously developed Tejas and attack helicopters will display air-to-air and air-to-ground attacks using different weapons, missile and guided bombs. In this exercise-cum-training Sukhoi-30, Jaguar, upgraded, MiG-21, Mirage and other planes and helicopters will display their power.

Source said the primary task of TACDE is operational training of all aircrew and ground crew of the IAF. This encompasses study and evolution of tactical procedures for various aircraft, their implementation in the form of standard operating procedures and training of pilots in these operations, doctrines and tactics.

Presently, the establishment is conducting professional courses for fighter and helicopter pilots, fighter controllers and ground crew of missile units
