CAPFs and Assam Rifles

The Union Government has created a separate Ex-Agniveer category for recruitment to the posts of Constable (General Duty) in the Central Armed Police Forces and Rifleman in the Assam Rifles.

Under the new provisions, 50 per cent of the vacancies in these recruitment categories will be reserved for former Agniveers. The measure is intended to provide a structured employment pathway for personnel completing their term of service under the Agnipath recruitment scheme.

Ex-Agniveer candidates will receive a three-year relaxation in the prescribed upper age limit. Candidates belonging to the first batch of Ex-Agniveers will receive an additional relaxation, allowing them to apply up to five years beyond the normal upper age limit.

The government has also exempted Ex-Agniveers from the Physical Standards Test, Physical Efficiency Test and written examination during recruitment to the designated posts. Their military training and service experience will therefore be recognised within the selection process.

A dedicated Ex-Agniveer Wing has also been established under the Ministry of Home Affairs to coordinate matters related to the future progression and employment of former Agniveers.

The first batch of Agniveers is currently serving its prescribed term and has yet to complete the period of engagement. The recruitment provisions are expected to become operational as personnel begin leaving the armed forces after completing their service.

The initiative seeks to utilise the discipline, physical training and operational experience acquired by Agniveers while supporting manpower requirements in the Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles.
