The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) today successfully test fired an indigenously-developed 500 kg inertially-guided bomb at the Pokhran test firing range in Rajasthan. The bomb hit its target at 30 km with high precision.
The test comes two weeks after the DRDO successfully conducted the flight test of ABHYAS – High-speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT) from a test range in Odisha.
DRDO was formed in 1958 from the amalgamation of the then already functioning Technical Development Establishment (TDEs) of the Indian Army and the Directorate of Technical Development & Production (DTDP) with the Defence Science Organisation (DSO).
