Daikin to Invest ₹1,000 Crore in India for First Global R&D Centre Outside Japan

The investment is expected to strengthen India’s position in next-generation cooling technologies, especially in fast-growing segments such as data-centre infrastructure and energy-efficient buildings. IBEF said the project could deepen India’s capabilities in HVAC components, industrial cooling systems, and engineering-services exports while creating high-value jobs.

Japanese air-conditioning major Daikin Industries is set to invest ₹1,000 crore, or about US$108.18 million, in India to establish its first global research and development centre outside Japan. The proposed hub will focus on software and product development for chillers and air-conditioning systems used in data centres, residential projects, and commercial buildings, underlining India’s growing importance in Daikin’s global innovation strategy.

According to company executives cited by The Economic Times, Daikin plans to hire around 500 engineers for the new centre, drawing from India’s technical talent base. KJ Jawa, Board Member of Daikin Industries and Managing Director of Daikin Airconditioning India, said the investment reflects the parent company’s confidence in India’s long-term manufacturing and engineering potential. ET also reported that the move is part of Daikin’s broader ambition to make India its largest base outside Japan across manufacturing, exports, product development, and component production.

Public reporting on the exact location has pointed to two possibilities. In October 2025, Haryana Chief Minister’s Office said Daikin had signed an MoU in Osaka to invest ₹1,000 crore in Haryana for an R&D centre focused on advanced technologies and sustainable industrial solutions. More recently, The Economic Times reported that the facility is likely to come up near Daikin’s existing manufacturing base in Neemrana.
