A passion for robotics and to innovate something path-breaking was the driving force behind the development of EyeROV – India’s first commercial underwater robotic drone by two IIT post graduates. It was a match, waiting to happen.

The new molecule – indole based quinone epoxide (IND-QE) – has been developed by scientists at the CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI), Lucknow and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune. This molecule can cross the bacterial cell barriers and disrupt the functioning of MarR proteins which are essential for the growth and survival of S. aureus bacteria.

Dr Jatin Kalita, research planning and business development head, CSIR-NEIST, said, “currently used mosquito repellants mostly synthetic pyrethroids which are less harmful than general insecticides but still are not totally safe for prolonged use. Therefore, efforts have been made to prepare safer mosquito repellent in different forms.”

Along with Cartosat, PSLV, in its 49th flight, also placed 13 nanosatellites from the US in their orbits. With this, Isro has launched a total of 310 foreign satellites.

“With better modelling, observations and data assimilation, we have improved weather forecasting services in the recent years. We have invested a lot in numerical weather prediction under Monsoon Mission which has resulted in a reliable dynamical modelling framework for predicting monsoon on different scales,” said Dr. Rajeevan while talking about improving prediction of extreme weather events and tropical cyclones.

India is the first country in Asia and the third in the world to successfully send a probe in Mars orbit. Japan had tried to launch Nozomi (PLANET-B) to Mars but was not able to reach. The experience and technology of India to send spacecraft to Mars would increase the reliability of the project, and Japanese experience on sample return will contribute to collect samples from Martian Moon. This project will provide a lot of data on the formation of the planet in the solar system.

Under the new 3D technology for preserving art, more than 4,000 artifacts belonging to five of the 62 tribes across Odisha have already been preserved in 3D digital format. This method also included audio and visuals. The restored documents are accessible online for scholars and researchers working on tribal art.

This method is a cost-saving technique as it does not requires seeds to grow crops. The leaves are available in abundance thus making this method feasible. Besides, it maintains the genetic purity of the yield and promises assured produce to the farmers.

After Chandrayaan-2, it is back to business for the Indian Space Research Organization. On Wednesday, ISRO will launch Cartosat-3, and 13 other foreign satellites, aboard a PSLV (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle). This will be ISRO’s fifth launch this year and the first since the July 22 launch of the Chandrayaan-2 Moon mission.
