Isro Finally Opens Door For People To Watch Rocket Launches

Monday’s liftoff of PSLV-C45 carrying a DRDO payload Emisat and 28 foreign satellites will be the first such launch which spectators can witness at the space agency’s island, which is over 100km north of Chennai. The agency’s move to open its high-security launch facility for people for free is on the lines of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa), which too allows people in the US to watch its space activities, including rocket launches.

India One Of World’s Fastest Growing Large Economies: IMF

Responding to a question on India’s economic development in the last five years at a fortnightly news conference here, IMF communications director Gerry Rice on Thursday said, “India has of course been one of the world’s fastest growing large economies of late, with growth averaging about seven per cent over the past five years.”

Eyeing Southeast Asia, India Builds Port In Indonesia

The Sabang port is being developed in partnership with neighbour and strategic partner Indonesia. An Indian Coast Guard Ship Vijit, is currently on a visit to Sabang, Indonesia, from March 17-20. The deep sea portwill give India wide access to Southeast Asia as a counter-balancing force. The port will be a key element in India’s Indo-Pacific strategy, persons familiar with the project told ET.

Rupee Payment For Venezuelan Oil Under Consideration

Current sanctions bar US firms from doing business with Venezuela but leave importers from India & other countries unhurt. The US, however, has been piling diplomatic pressure on India to cut import. Once the US cuts off Venezuela from the international financial system, Indian refiners will be forced to either stop import or build an alternative payment channel.
