Both the Niti Aayog, which advises the government on economic policy, and the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB), which is tasked with special projects by the top echelons of the government, have recommended a restructuring of the defence ministry to promote Make in India.
In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, he said “Make in India’ program is being used by the Government for defence procurements by categorising the capital acquisition proposals under ‘Buy (Indian-IDDM)’, ‘Buy (Indian)’, ‘Buy and Make (Indian)’, ‘Make’ and ‘Strategic Partnership Model’ categories of Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP)-2016.
He said Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal and J&K do not have any N-plant. Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (GHAVP) will be the first-ever N-plant among the five states. The plant in Haryana “will be up and running in 2 to 3 years” and provide cheap electricity to northern cities. GHAVP, which will have two units of 700MW capacity each, will cost Rs 20,594 crore. The plant, for which land acquisition is complete, will provide employment to 2,000 people.
