That key piece of equipment was the Israeli Litening laser designator pod, which, when ‘pulsed’ (fired), marks targets with an invisible beam. This beam is essentially the “path” that laser-guided bombs follow on being launched. The bombs track the laser and fly to the precisely selected point of impact.

In a brief video about the exercise, Air Commodore M. Ranade revealed that four Su-30MKI fighters, two C-17 transport aircraft and one Il-78 aerial refuelling tanker would depart from the Air Force Station at Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Replying to queries during Question Hour, the minister said the government will not allow any compromise on the defence preparedness due to capital constraints.

Although the details of the new policy were not divulged completely, the Indian Official indicated that the new mechanism would aim to ease the administrative burden on Indian defence exporters. “We are working on launching the Open General Export Licence [system] where the entire process of [getting] permission from government will be further reduced,” he said.
