The force came into existence as the Crown Representative’s Police this day in 1939. It became the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on the enactment of the CRPF Act on December 28, 1949. The Force has grown into a mammoth organisation with 246 battalions, including 208 executive battalions, six women battalions, 15 Rapid Action Force (anti-riots) battalions, 10 CoBRA (specialised anti-Naxala) battalions.
The troops will be addition to about 65 regular battalions of the Central Reserve Police Force in the valley and over 20 other battalions of other forces deployed to conduct the yatra that will end on August 15.

US-based multinational Honeywell has decided to set up a Rs 1,200 crore textile plant in Butibori MIDC. It plans to produce Spectra — a specialized fibre used for defence, semi-defence and paramilitary purposes. Anbalagan further said Honeywell had already identified a 50 acre plot in Butibori. “We will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with them soon and hand over the plot after payment is made,” he added.
The ongoing naval base expansion work — Seabird Phase II A — is expected to be completed by 2023. Once operational, it will be the largest naval base in Asia. As part of the expansion work, the naval air station will come up at Alageri village near Ankola and it is expected to start functioning in 2025.
