After over three decades of research and accumulation of data, DRDE scientists finalised Indian Standards, say officials, adding that India will not be dependent on US and German standards anymore. Five types of NBC protective systems and equipment for troops have been devised — individual protective equipment, collective protection system, medical protection equipment, detection equipment and decontamination system.

The percentage of imported items has reduced from 43% to 29% in the last five years, Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik said in response to a question.

Nearly 84 per cent of the total 3,141 underground bunkers for the protection of border residents during cross-border Pakistani shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) have been completed in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, an official spokesman said on Sunday. The work on the majority of the remaining 505 bunkers is at different stages of completion, he said.

As per the regulatory filing, Garudastra is an advanced anti-submarine self-guided state of the art homing torpedo being designed and developed by NSTL, DRDO with BDL as the development partner.Meanwhile, Dishani, an expendable air-deployed ASW sonobuoy system being designed and developed by NPOL, DRDO. BDL is the development partner for Dishani.

India is going in for a major upgrade of surveillance capabilities along the northern borders with China through an array of drones, sensors, reconnaissance and electronic warfare equipment to keep tabs on the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in real-time and strengthen measures to detect intrusions.

The total indigenous content of the Ka-226T utility helicopters, to be jointly manufactured locally by India and Russia with Transfer of Technology (ToT), is between 27%-33%, said Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) R. Madhavan. The final deal is held up as the Russian proposal of 62% indigenous content in assembled helicopters falls short of the tender requirement of 70%,

The Indian Army is planning to install a 100-foot-high national flag in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir in the near future. The foundation stone for the flag, which will be the highest Tricolour in the Valley, was laid today.

US defence major Lockheed Martin on Friday said it signed an agreement with state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited NSE 3.79 % (HAL) to explore potential industrial collaboration in India’s aerospace sector. Lockheed Martin said it was strengthening its relationships with the Indian industry and was working towards integrating it into the company’s global aerospace and defence ecosystem.
