Ahmedabad-based robotics company Gridbots Technologies has developed the indigenous BRUTE-TLH, an autonomous Tactical Load Hauler designed to carry ammunition, supplies and other mission-critical stores across difficult terrain while reducing the physical burden and exposure of frontline troops.
The BRUTE-TLH is the logistics configuration of Gridbots’ larger BRUTE 6×6 unmanned ground vehicle platform, which has been designed and manufactured in India for defence and homeland-security applications. The company’s currently published technical specifications list a 250 kg direct-loading payload capacity for the Tactical Load Hauler configuration.
Instead of a weapon or surveillance module, the BRUTE-TLH carries a top-mounted cargo cage with four openable sides. This allows troops to load ammunition boxes, water, batteries, equipment and other supplies directly onto the unmanned vehicle for movement between forward positions.
A key capability of the system is its Follow-Me mode, enabling the robotic vehicle to accompany dismounted personnel without requiring continuous manual driving. It can also operate under manual control, allowing the platform to function as a robotic mule during tactical movements and last-mile resupply missions.
The broader BRUTE platform uses an all-terrain 6×6 configuration and weighs around 150 kg. Gridbots lists a maximum speed of approximately 10 km/h, gradability of up to 40 degrees, IP65 environmental protection and an operating temperature envelope extending from minus 20°C to 55°C.
Autonomous navigation is supported by a combination of 16-channel 3D LiDAR, RTK satellite navigation, inertial sensors, odometry and LiDAR-based simultaneous localisation and mapping. Such technologies are intended to allow the UGV to identify terrain, avoid obstacles and navigate complex routes with reduced operator intervention.
Gridbots has designed the underlying BRUTE chassis as a modular platform rather than a single-purpose logistics vehicle. Other configurations include the BRUTE HITMAN for armed overwatch and the BRUTE OBSERVER for reconnaissance and surveillance using an extendable sensor mast. The common chassis can therefore potentially be adapted for logistics, reconnaissance, perimeter security and other tactical missions.
The company has also indicated further development of the load-hauling capability. In its latest update, Gridbots described the BRUTE-TLH as capable of handling payloads of up to 500 kg while negotiating inclines of around 40 degrees and incorporating hill-hold capability. This figure is higher than the 250 kg payload currently specified on the company’s detailed BRUTE product page, suggesting either an enhanced configuration or continuing development of the platform.
Robotic load carriers are becoming increasingly relevant to modern ground forces, particularly in mountainous terrain, forward operating areas and other locations where troops must carry large quantities of ammunition, batteries, surveillance equipment, food and water over difficult ground. An unmanned carrier can reduce the physical load on soldiers while also limiting the need to expose personnel or conventional vehicles during repeated resupply movements.
The BRUTE-TLH adds to India’s growing ecosystem of domestically developed unmanned ground systems. By combining autonomous navigation, rugged all-terrain mobility and modular payload configurations, Gridbots is positioning the BRUTE family as an indigenous robotic platform capable of supporting soldiers across logistics, surveillance and potentially combat-support roles.
