A new Qatar-India postal remittance service powered by UPI has gone live, allowing customers in Qatar to transfer funds directly to bank accounts in India through Qatar Post outlets.
The service, called PosTransfer powered by UPI, was launched in Qatar on August 15, 2026. It brings together Qatar Post, India Post, the Universal Postal Union’s Interconnection Platform and NPCI International Payments Limited.
The initiative combines the reach of traditional postal networks with India’s digital payments infrastructure. It aims to offer a faster and more accessible channel for cross-border remittances.
Money Sent Directly to UPI-Enabled Accounts
Customers can initiate a transfer by visiting a Qatar Post outlet and providing the recipient’s UPI ID along with the required identification details.
The beneficiary in India must activate the option to receive foreign inward remittances through the UPI application being used.
Once the facility is activated, the remitted amount can be credited directly to the recipient’s UPI-enabled bank account.
According to India Post, the system allows funds to be transferred instantly after the necessary requirements are completed.
Transactions From QAR 10 to QAR 4,000
The service supports transactions ranging from QAR 10 to QAR 4,000.
Each transaction is also subject to a maximum equivalent value of ₹1 lakh.
A flat service charge of QAR 15 per transaction applies.
The relatively simple process is expected to benefit Indian workers and families in Qatar who regularly send money to relatives in India.
Launch Coincides With India’s Independence Day
The Qatar service became operational on August 15, coinciding with India’s Independence Day.
Sandeep Kumar, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of India in Qatar, visited the Qatar Post outlet at LuLu Mall in Doha during the launch.
He interacted with representatives involved in the initiative, which India Post described as an important step in improving digital financial connectivity between the two countries.
Postal Networks Meet India’s Digital Public Infrastructure
PosTransfer uses the Universal Postal Union’s Interconnection Platform, or UPU-IP, together with India’s Unified Payments Interface ecosystem.
The model allows participating postal operators overseas to connect international remittance services with UPI-enabled bank accounts in India.
This creates a bridge between physical postal outlets and India’s digital banking infrastructure.
For migrant workers who may prefer or depend on postal access points, the system could provide a practical alternative to conventional remittance channels.
Important for Indian Community in Qatar
Qatar hosts a large Indian community, making the India-Qatar corridor an important market for inward remittances.

By using Qatar Post outlets, customers gain access to a familiar and widely available physical network while beneficiaries in India receive funds through the country’s digital payments system.
The model could also improve financial inclusion by making digital remittance services available to users who may not rely entirely on online banking platforms.
India Post Plans More International UPI Remittance Corridors
India Post is also working with postal operators in other countries to launch additional PosTransfer powered by UPI corridors.
Expansion of the service could create a wider network through which members of the Indian diaspora send money directly into UPI-linked bank accounts.
The Qatar launch therefore represents more than a bilateral remittance arrangement. It also demonstrates how India’s digital public infrastructure can connect with international postal systems to support cross-border financial services.
As UPI continues to expand beyond domestic payments, integrations such as PosTransfer could become an important part of India’s wider digital payments outreach.
