The Indian Army has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Zoho Corporation to accelerate indigenous digital transformation and strengthen technology-driven capabilities within the force. The partnership is aligned with India’s JAI mission, which stands for Jointness, Atmanirbharta and Innovation.
The agreement was signed by Lieutenant General Harsh Chhibber, Director General Information Systems, and Rajendran Dandapani, Director of Engineering at Zoho Corporation. The signing ceremony was witnessed by General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff, and Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu.
The collaboration is aimed at developing secure, sustainable and India-built digital solutions for the Army. It will focus on application-oriented research, software development and the creation of technology systems suited to the operational and administrative needs of the armed forces.
The MoU comes at a time when the Indian Army is placing greater emphasis on digital readiness, secure communication, data management, automation and indigenous software platforms. Modern military operations increasingly depend on fast information flow, reliable digital infrastructure and secure applications that can function across complex operational environments.
Through this partnership, the Indian Army and Zoho will work together to strengthen digital skill sets among personnel. The initiative is expected to help soldiers, officers and technical teams adapt to a more data-driven and digitally connected battlefield environment.
The collaboration also supports the Army’s wider goal of becoming a future-ready force. By working with an Indian technology company, the Army aims to promote self-reliance in software systems, reduce dependence on external platforms and encourage domestic innovation in defence digital infrastructure.
Zoho’s experience in building enterprise software, cloud-based tools, collaboration platforms and business applications can support the Army’s effort to create customised digital solutions. The focus is expected to remain on secure, scalable and practical technologies that can be adapted for defence use.
The agreement also reinforces the importance of public-private collaboration in India’s defence modernisation journey. As the armed forces adopt more digital systems, partnerships with Indian technology companies can help create faster solutions, improve cybersecurity awareness and build a stronger domestic technology ecosystem.
The JAI mission has placed jointness, self-reliance and innovation at the centre of India’s defence transformation. The Army-Zoho MoU fits into this larger framework by encouraging indigenous research, strengthening digital capacity and promoting Indian-built technology solutions for military requirements.
The partnership marks an important step towards building a stronger digital foundation for the Indian Army. With secure applications, trained personnel and indigenous platforms, the force is expected to move closer to a more connected, efficient and technologically advanced operational model.
