India and Russia on April 16, 2026 held a high-level round table in New Delhi aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation in the steel sector, with both sides discussing raw material sourcing, technology collaboration, equipment manufacturing and research opportunities. The meeting, organised by the Ministry of Steel, was co-chaired by India’s Steel Secretary and Mikhail Iurin, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
The Russian delegation, which included representatives from industry and allied sectors, joined Indian counterparts for discussions on areas of mutual interest across the steel value chain. According to the government, the interaction served as a platform for constructive engagement and a broader review of ongoing cooperation between the two countries in steel and related industries.
The two sides explored ways to strengthen existing engagement and identified scope for continued collaboration in strategic areas linked to the steel industry. Discussions covered not only trade-linked issues such as raw materials, but also longer-term possibilities in industrial technology, equipment manufacturing and joint research.
The Ministry of Steel said the round table helped both countries better understand each other’s perspectives and underlined the importance of sustained dialogue in advancing sectoral ties. The talks were held in what the government described as a cordial and constructive atmosphere, reflecting the longstanding partnership between India and the Russian Federation.
Both sides expressed their intention to continue engagement and further strengthen cooperation in the steel sector, signalling that India-Russia industrial ties could see deeper collaboration in the months ahead.
