Kanpur: Nishank, a light-weight revolver, built indigenously, was launched by Field Gun Factory (FGF), on Friday. Additional director general of police (zone) Prem Prakash, the chief guest, on the occasion.
He congratulated senior GM Field Gun Factory (FGF) Anil Kumar and his co-workers for the achievement.
The new 7.65-calibre revolver weighs just 625 grams. The gun with .32 bore comes with 76.2 mm barrel, a range 15 to 20 meters and is only 177.8 mm in length. “Chrome plating is being done to make Nishank -revolver lightweight,” said Kumar.
He further said, “Nishank’s firing range has been increased. With a barrel length of 76.2 mm, it is capable of covering a range of 15 to 20 meters.” “It’s completely a ‘Make in India’ product,” he added.
According to senior officials at FGF, the new revolver’s safety mechanism has been modified making the chances of misfiring almost nill.
Additional GM PK Bandhopadhyai and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.
A smart biometric firearm holster with 3D printing technology to prevent misuse and theft of firearms was also launched on the occasion. “One cannot open the lock of the holster, aptly named ‘Kavach,’ without the fingerprint impression of its owner,” said an official.
“The ‘Kavach’ will also record the count of shots fired and is equipped with lethium battery,” he added.
