The Indian Railways has completed the construction of the giant four-lane cable-stayed railway overbridge (RoB) at Burdwan Junction in West Bengal. The RoB, considered to be the second largest in the country will be inaugurated by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal. “New 4 lane cable stayed Road Overbridge at Barddhaman W.B, (under final stage of completion) will be inaugurated by Piyush Goyal on 30th September 2019. This project will set the standards for future fast track construction over busy Railway yard,” Ministry of Railways tweeted.

Here are key things to know about India’s second largest railway overbridge:
1) The railway overbridge was completed in 197 days without affecting traffic for even a single day, PTI quoted officials as saying.
2) The work on 188.43 metre cable-stayed railway overbridge was kicked off in 2012.

3) Besides having 1.5 metre-wide footpaths on each of the sides parallel to the lanes, the railway overbridge has 27.7 metres of width to accommodate vehicles on four lanes.
4) Built at a cost of ₹300 crore, the project is the result of a 50:50 partnership between the Ministry of Railways and the West Bengal government, officials said.
5) The railway overbridge connects Burdwan town with the two sub-divisions of Kalna and Katwa, and is on the Howrah–Bardhaman main line.
