124-Year-Old Indian Monk, Swami Sivananda Stuns Abu Dhabi Officials

Born in 1896, Swami Sivananda from the city of Kolkata in the West Bengal state of India, puts his longevity down to no sex or spices, and daily yoga. Hindu monk Swami Sivananda was born on August 8, 1896, according to his passport. If true, his life would have spanned three centuries, but despite his apparent age he remains strong enough to perform yoga for hours at a time.

Bishun Khare was born in Varanasi (formerly known as Benaras) on June 27, 1933. He earned degrees in physics, chemistry, and mathematics from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and pursued his doctorate in physics from Syracuse University in New York. Thereafter, he did post-doctoral research at both State University of New York (Stony Brook) and the University of Toronto.
