MOIL- Manganese Ore (India) Limited

MOIL Manganese Production Rises 19% to 1.81 Lakh Tonnes in September

MOIL’s provisional manganese ore production increased by about 19.1 per cent year-on-year in September 2026. Output rose by 29,000 tonnes compared with the same month last year, giving the company a stronger monthly production base as it moves into the second half of the financial year.

MOIL Limited reported a strong increase in manganese ore production during September 2026, with output reaching 1.81 lakh tonnes, compared with 1.52 lakh tonnes in September 2025. The state-owned manganese producer also recorded higher sales during the month, strengthening its operational performance as it completed the first half of FY2026-27.

September Production Rises 19% Year-on-Year

MOIL’s provisional manganese ore production increased by about 19.1 per cent year-on-year in September 2026. Output rose by 29,000 tonnes compared with the same month last year, giving the company a stronger monthly production base as it moves into the second half of the financial year.

The September increase is significant because it comes after a more moderate cumulative rise during the first six months of FY27. This suggests that production momentum improved towards the end of the first half, which could support higher output during the remaining months of the year.

Manganese Ore Sales Increase to 1.64 Lakh Tonnes

MOIL also reported a substantial improvement in sales during September. The company sold 1.64 lakh tonnes of manganese ore, compared with 1.42 lakh tonnes in September 2025, representing year-on-year growth of roughly 15.5 per cent.

The simultaneous increase in production and sales indicates that higher mine output was accompanied by stronger market dispatches. This is important for a mining company because production growth has greater operational value when it is supported by corresponding demand and efficient movement of material to customers.

First-Half Production Reaches 9.61 Lakh Tonnes

For the April-September period of FY2026-27, MOIL recorded cumulative manganese ore production of 9.61 lakh tonnes. This was higher than the 9.44 lakh tonnes produced during the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

The cumulative increase is smaller than the growth recorded in September alone, but it still shows that production during the first half remained ahead of the previous year. The stronger September performance could therefore mark the beginning of a faster production phase as the company progresses through FY27.

Cumulative Sales Rise to 7.78 Lakh Tonnes

MOIL’s cumulative sales performance showed a more pronounced improvement than production. Sales during the first six months of FY2026-27 reached 7.78 lakh tonnes, compared with 7.10 lakh tonnes during the same period a year earlier.

This represents growth of around 9.6 per cent. The faster rise in cumulative sales suggests that demand and dispatch activity remained healthy even though overall production growth during the first half was relatively modest.

MOIL Targets 25.85 Lakh Tonnes in FY2026-27

MOIL has set a production target of 25.85 lakh tonnes for FY2026-27. The 9.61 lakh tonnes produced during the first half accounts for slightly more than 37 per cent of that annual target.

Reaching the full-year objective will therefore require stronger output during the remaining six months. MOIL has been expanding mine capacity, mechanisation and exploration activity as part of its longer-term effort to raise manganese ore production and strengthen domestic supply.

Manganese Remains Important for India’s Steel Industry

Manganese is an important raw material for steelmaking because it improves strength, hardness and resistance to wear. Demand for the mineral is therefore closely linked with infrastructure, construction, railways, automobiles and industrial manufacturing.

India’s continued expansion in these sectors gives manganese an important role in the wider industrial supply chain. As one of the country’s major producers, MOIL remains strategically important to domestic steelmakers that depend on reliable supplies of manganese ore.

Manganese Is Also Gaining Importance in Battery Materials

The strategic importance of manganese is expanding beyond conventional steel production. High-purity manganese compounds are used in several lithium-ion battery chemistries, particularly cathode systems containing nickel, manganese and cobalt.

This broader demand profile is increasing the importance of manganese in energy-transition supply chains. Although MOIL’s present business remains centred on manganese ore, its production expansion has growing relevance for both traditional industry and emerging advanced-material applications.

Strong September Performance Builds Momentum for Second Half

MOIL’s September performance shows a clear improvement in monthly production and sales, while cumulative FY27 sales remain comfortably above the corresponding period last year. The combination of higher output, stronger dispatches and ongoing capacity expansion gives the company a firmer operational base for the second half of the financial year.

As MOIL works towards its annual production target of 25.85 lakh tonnes, sustained growth in mine output and sales can further strengthen its role in supplying manganese to India’s steel sector and emerging advanced-material industries.
