As per a new report by Amazon, the number of employees in India with the requirement of digital skills would need to expand nine times by 2025, and the average employees would need to acquire seven new digital skills by 2025 to remain competitive with technology advances and requirement.
According to a survey by Amazon Web Services, this indicates a total of 3.9 billion digital skills training will be expected by 2025. As of 2021, digitally trained employees constitute 12% of the country’s workforce.
Top in-demand skills in India include cloud architecture design, cybersecurity and large-scale data modelling. Mr. Rahul Sharma, President, Public Sector, AISPL, AWS India and South Asia stated that as per the study, there is demand for more digital workers in non-technology sectors such as manufacturing, education.
He stated that Amazon is looking forward to expanding its collaboration with industry organisations and educational institutes to expand cloud talent. The report (prepared by AlphaBeta (a strategy and economics consulting firm) and commissioned by AWS) analyses the digital skills required by employees in their jobs.
The survey included > 500 Indian digital workers and interviewed stakeholders such as technology experts, business leaders, and policymakers. By 2025, the most in-demand digital skills in the manufacturing sector in India will be cloud architecture design and the ability to create original digital content such as software and web applications. As per the report, > 50% digital workers in the manufacturing sector believe that they would require these skills to meet the requirement of the industry.
Key skill in the education sector will be the ability to develop digital security and cyber forensics tools and techniques.
As per the report, ~ 76% of the digital workers in India expect that they would need cloud computing skill to perform their jobs proficiently in 2025.
