The US has praised New Delhi’s contributions to the peaceful development of the war-torn Afghanistan and said India is a most reliable regional partner of the war-torn country.
The Pentagon said in its semi-annual Afghan report to the US Congress, that India interpreted the new US South Asia policy as an opportunity to increase its economic involvement with Afghanistan.
The US defence headquarters said in the report that South Asia Strategy, which was announced by President Donald Trump in August last year, has focused on pressuring Pakistan to limit support and safe-haven for proxy terrorist and militant groups and to play a constructive role in facilitating Afghan reconciliation.
Expressing concern over the free movement of some terrorist groups in Pakistan that are presenting security challenges for Afghanistan, the Pentagon has said the US has told all its regional partners, including Pakistan, that state support for terrorist proxies will not be tolerated.
The Pentagon’s remarks came amidst reports that President Donald Trump is planning to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan.
