Indian infrastructure company TATA Projects has received an order from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) for its second-generation bioethanol project in Bargarh, Odisha, India.
Proposed production capacity for the ethanol plant is 100,000 litres per day; the project is of considerable national significance, since the Indian Government is encouraging the production of cellulosic ethanol from agricultural resources to provide additional sources of income for farmers.
The project is expected to help address growing environmental concerns, as well as support the country’s Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) programme. The use of agricultural feedstock will also reduce air pollution from the burning of waste crops, the company noted.
Once complete, the bioethanol plant will produce fuel grade ethanol that meets specification IS 15464:2004, using domestic agro-based lignocellulosic feedstock. Rice straw will be used as the design feedstock, with maize stalk being used as the check case.
“As a leading engineering and technology company, we have a specialised division that executes construction of environmentally beneficial and challenging projects,” commented Vinayak Deshpande, managing director of TATA Projects. “Hence, we seek to undertake projects that improve the lives of communities and support national developmental objectives at the same time. TATA Projects has delivered projects on-time using world-class management techniques with uncompromising standards of safety and ecological responsibility.”
The company secured an additional three orders from HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Limited (HRRL), pertaining to various activities at HRRL’s proposed greenfield refinery/petrochemical complex in Rajasthan.
Commenting on the orders, Satyanarayana K, COO of industrial systems at TATA Projects, added: “We are delighted to secure and execute these mega projects of national importance. These projects are testimony to our expertise and vast experience in executing similar projects on time. Energy is an area wherein every country needs to focus since it directly affects the economic growth and welfare of citizens. As a company, we are certain that these projects will further strengthen India’s energy security while providing an impetus to national development.”
