India has stepped up its humanitarian response to flood-hit Mozambique by dispatching 500 metric tonnes of rice and 10 metric tonnes of essential relief material aboard an Indian Navy ship, as the country faces severe flooding in its central and southern provinces. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the assistance forms part of India’s broader Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief efforts aimed at supporting affected communities in the African nation.
The relief consignment includes tents, hygiene kits, rehabilitation support items, and around three tonnes of critical medicines intended to meet urgent needs on the ground. In addition to this latest shipment, India has already delivered 86 metric tonnes of life-saving medicines to Mozambique through the sea route, underlining the scale of its ongoing support.
The outreach reflects India’s continuing role as a rapid responder in times of crisis across the Indian Ocean Region and Africa. The Ministry of External Affairs said India remains committed to providing humanitarian, medical and logistical assistance to Mozambique, reaffirming its position as a trusted first responder and a dependable partner in the region.
The latest assistance comes at a time when Mozambique is dealing with the aftermath of devastating floods that have disrupted lives and infrastructure in several provinces. India’s response, combining food aid, emergency supplies and medicines, signals both immediate relief and wider solidarity with a partner country facing a natural disaster.
