Indian Railways have sought private participation in designing new freight wagons, according to a new wagon design policy issued by the government aimed at tapping outside expertise in an area that was a preserve of the Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO), the R&D wing of Indian Railways.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today approved the scheme on Green Energy Corridor (GEC) Phase-II for Intra-State Transmission System (InSTS) for addition of approximately 10,750 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines and approx. 27,500 Mega Volt-Amperes (MVA) transformation capacity of substations. The scheme will facilitate grid integration and power evacuation of approximately 20 GW of Renewable Energy (RE) power projects in seven States namely, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, today has approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Nepal for construction of bridge over Mahakali River at Dharchula (India)- Dharchula (Nepal).
The planned agreement will give LIOC, a subsidiary of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), a 50-year lease on 14 tanks and a 49 percent stake in 61 other tanks held jointly with the state-run Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC). The remaining 24 tanks will be kept by the Sri Lankan government. The cost of restoring per tank is estimated to be around $1 million.
Defence Minister Mr Rajnath Singh unveiled 27 roads and bridges projects implemented by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), which included one built at an altitude of more than 19,000 feet on the Umling-La pass in southern Ladakh. Mr Rajnath Singh highlighted that the road has become the world’s highest motorable road. He acknowledged that the BRO accomplished the “historic accomplishment” of constructing the road in southern Ladakh despite various hurdles, including extreme altitude and sub-zero temperatures.
During the last 7.5 years, India has witnessed the fastest rate of growth in renewable energy capacity addition among all large economies, with renewable energy capacity (including large hydro) growing 1.97 times and solar energy expanding over 18 times.
