Attitude Rescript: Let’s Change our Attitude!

We cannot control the environment around us. Adaptability is one of the key aspects of evolution and survival. As a race, we humans will survive, but as individuals we must have a personal process for easy adaptability.

This is a detailed text for the reframing of mindset and can be used for altering any mental beliefs. We all have unregulated internal dialogues that can, at times, be destructive.

When we watch a movie, we react emotionally: we laugh, we cry, we feel bored, or scared, and sometimes even socially react against the theme of the movie.

The responses churned up in our minds are actually due to the power of our imagination. During the movie, it is very hard for us to differentiate the movie from reality, despite being intellectually aware of this fact. Our beliefs guide our future and often cripple us from progressing or adapting.

We cannot control the environment around us. Adaptability is one of the key aspects of evolution and survival. As a race, we humans will survive, but as individuals we must have a personal process for easy adaptability. Any form of motivation, therapy, or life changing experience has the role of changing old beliefs to new beliefs for the new environment. This critical step of change in mindset can happen with or without awareness.

The Attitude Re-script is a self-employed mental technique where we can easily alter our beliefs. We start by making a list of all the beliefs that help us to progress. We must realize, beliefs are adaptable and must evolve with time. Success depends on numerous factors: the ability to constantly improvise failure as feedback is one of the necessary attitudes. Once the list of necessary beliefs are ready, we think back to an event of childhood or any past trauma. We image that these lists of beliefs are taught to the past version of our self. Everyday the beliefs are taught to past version of life, till these beliefs come naturally as our attitude. We are, in fact, the product of our past experience. In this mental technique we are teaching a scripted belief to our past self. The greater number of events we can rescript and internalize, the more we get closer to making this belief our natural attitude.

Let me elaborate this with 3 simple yet powerful beliefs that have helped me:

1) “Action is essential to make dreams into reality.”

2) “There are no failures, only feedbacks to make me better.”

3) “I am healthy and happy.”

I wrote them down on paper. Then I imaged teaching them to a two-year-old childhood version of myself. Finally, I read them to myself throughout the course of my childhood. I read them to myself at every turning point of my life: sitting in school, playing with friends, enjoying a vacation, getting hurt, and being sick. This way every prominent event of my life is bearing this message. When I did this everyday for few minutes, it started to manifest as my natural behavior.

Subsequently other beliefs I have ingrained are

“I love my body which is temple of my soul”

“I am calm, considerate and compassionate”

” I focus on healthy and active version of myself”

…. and many more.
