freedom from the state of disease-Antibiotic resistance

Are we Asking the RIGHT QUESTION?

The body is in state of dynamic balance between the internal forces of mind and the external forces from the environment. Health is a state of balance achieved in the body at a given point of time and Disease is a state of disbalance in the body .

In my previous posts, I have taken the deliberate approach of addressing issues of the body, initially by eliminating procrastination, touching up on happiness, and taking the body closer to the natural environment.

The body is in state of dynamic balance between the internal forces of mind and the external forces from the environment. Health is a state of balance achieved in the body at a given point of time and Disease is a state of disbalance in the body .Health is a physical condition where a person experiences pleasant sensations. In contrast, the person is said to be in state of “dis-ease” when the body is NOT feeling pleasant or easy. Ancient texts of Ayurveda use the term “Aarogya ” for health. Literally translated the word means “freedom from the state of disease”. Disease is considered as the natural state at birth, and progressing actively towards health is considered the norm.

Health is said to be achieved only with constant effort. Stagnation or fixation is lethargic and degenerative. Evolutionary data shows us that man has constantly evolved with bacteria and numerous microbes. The recent studies have linked organelles and organ systems to symbiotic colonization and evolution from single-celled organisms. Gut bacteria have been directly linked to mental well-being. Man and microbes have been living synergistically until discovery of antibiotics. Historically, microbes or disease eliminated most humans by the time they reached the 5th year of age. Human gene pool achieved after 2.5 Million years of elimination of the weak resulted in intelligent, modern humans. This intelligent, modern human discovered antibiotics. Antibiotics changed the world as we know it. Infant and mother deaths reduced drastically. The survival, which was a privilege in nature, became an entitlement of a newborn. This came with an expensive price, years of rampant antibiotic usage has given rise to antibiotic resistant bacteria.

Birth exposes a newborn to millions of environmental bacteria. In our “fear and care” when a child is exposed to microbes we medicate the child immediately. The microbes are mutating and growing stronger in the environment; and unfortunately human children are pumped with
antibiotics to protect them from these microbes. In our living times, we have seen antibiotics being ineffective and humans NOT achieving necessary immunity for survival. Let us not turn this boon of medicine into a curse against humanity.

When we go to a doctor, Or as doctors ourselves, are we asking the RIGHT QUESTION? What is the cause of disease? Of course it can be microbes, but why are they attacking the body in the first place? What is it in body that makes it susceptible? The RIGHT question we have to ask is, “how can the immune system be strengthened in diseased?” This is the paradigm shift we must achieve when considering disease.

Next time you or your loved one is sick, wait for a period of time, 4 or 5 days. The innate immunity of the body will get strengthened. You can still opt for antibiotics after 4 to 5 days.

Keep your gut empty on the first day. Drink lots of warm water. Avoid eating solid food, this way your immune system in the intestinal lining is freed. Your body will develop immunity faster. If you have noticed, you don’t feel hungry when you are sick. Our body is trying to tell us not to eat. The body heals, the doctor helps your body to heal. Remember to ask the RIGHT QUESTION.
