HAL Receives First Set of Wing Assemblies for LCA MK1A From L&t

Coimbatore, July 17, 2025 — In a major milestone for India’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) handed over the first set of wing assemblies for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mk1A to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) at its facility in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The assemblies were received by Shri M Abdul Salam, General Manager of HAL’s LCA Tejas Division, from the Precision Manufacturing & Systems Complex unit of L&T. The ceremony was attended virtually by Secretary (Defence Production) Shri Sanjeev Kumar.

Commending the collaboration, Shri Sanjeev Kumar praised both HAL and L&T for their contributions toward self-reliance in defence manufacturing. He lauded HAL for effectively engaging and nurturing private sector partnerships, thereby enhancing national capability in critical aerospace systems. Expressing confidence in achieving production targets for the LCA Tejas, he urged stakeholders to widen their vision and reduce reliance on foreign suppliers.

HAL CMD Dr. DK Sunil, present during the ceremony, described the event as the outcome of years of close collaboration and commitment to excellence between HAL and L&T. “HAL is actively working with suppliers, including both large enterprises and SMEs, as part of its strategy to achieve Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) in the aerospace and defence sectors. The establishment of a parallel aircraft structural assembly line in the private sector will significantly boost the production capacity of the LCA Tejas program,” he noted.

L&T’s Senior Vice President and Head of Precision Engineering & Systems, Shri Arun Ramchandani, announced that the company will initially deliver four wing sets annually, with plans to ramp up production to 12 sets per year through advanced automation and manufacturing processes.

The LCA Tejas Division has so far received multiple structural modules from various Indian firms: Air Intake Assemblies from Lakshmi Machine Works, Rear Fuselage Assembly from Alpha Tocol, Loom Assemblies from Amphenol, Fin & Rudder Assemblies from Tata Advanced Systems, Centre Fuselage from VEM Technologies, and now Wing Assemblies from L&T — all contributing to the LCA Mk1A production ecosystem.
