Indian Army to Have First Dhanush Regiment by March 2020

“The first regiment of 18 guns will be in place by March 2020. We will get another 36 guns by March 2021 and another 40 by March 2022. The entire order for 114 guns will be completed by 2022,” an Army source said. In April, the Ordnance Factory Board had handed over the first batch of six Dhanush guns. The Gun Carriage Factory, Jabalpur, received the Bulk Production Clearance to manufacture 114 guns from the Army on February 18, 2019.

LCA Tejas to Get More Teeth with Beyond-Visual-Range Air-to-Air Astra Missile

The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), which successfully integrated Astra on IAF’s frontline air-superiority fighter Sukhoi-30MKI (Su-30MKI) will soon begin testing Astra on Tejas, reports say. Astra is a beyond visual range (BVR) air-to-air missile with a maximum range of 110 km, intended to replace Russian R-73 missiles of 40km range. DRDO and IAF officials are thrilled after jointly completing five successful tests of Astra missile on Su-30MKIs at Chandipur test range off Odisha.

Indian Air Force Successfully Flight Tests Air-to-Air Astra Missile from Sukhoi-30 MKI

Astra is an indigenous Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Astra missile with a range of over 70 kms. It was successfully test-fired by IAF Sukhoi jet on Monday. The missile was launched from Su-30 MKI as a part of User trials. “The live aerial target was engaged accurately demonstrating the capability of the first indigenous air-to-air missile,” the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
