Principal, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute Darjeeling Get Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award (Second Time)for Life Time Achievements

This is the first time that an armed forces officer is receiving the prestigious TENZING NORGAY NATIONAL ADVENTURE AWARD for the second time by the president of India in a ceremony being planned at RASHTRAPATI BHAWAN on 13 Nov 2021. In year 2010, the officer received the said award for Aero Sports Category for setting a World Record for undertaking Skydiving Jump over the base of Mt. Everest. However , this year the Ministry has recognized his life time contribution for the supporting the youth to pursue adventure sports.

Army Steps Up Efforts to Safeguard Siliguri Corridor

Siliguri Corridor is a narrow stretch of land bordering Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh measuring approximately 170X60km, at the narrowest it is about 20-22km. The geostrategic significance of the corridor comes about in terms of it being a narrow piece of land which connects the northeast India to the rest of the country through which major national highways, railway line, pipelines, OFC connectivity and the rest pass.

12 Navies from Indian Ocean Region to Participate in Indian Navy’s Maritime Conclave

Navy Chiefs of 12 countries from the Indian Ocean Region will participate in the Indian Navy’s three-day-long maritime conclave starting on Sunday in Goa, according to an official statement. This will be the third edition of the Goa Maritime Conclave (GMC-21). It will build upon the working level deliberations of the Goa Maritime Symposium-21 held in May this year, the Indian Navy’s statement mentioned.

India’s Abhinandan Varthaman, Who Downed Pakistan F-16, is Group Capt Now

Abhinandan, then 35, scripted military aviation history by downing an F-16, seconds before his own MiG-21 Bison was hit by a missile forcing him to eject. Experts then hailed it as the first-ever kill of an F-16 by a MiG-21 Bison, fighter jets of two different generations. He was captured after he bailed out of his aircraft. Pakistan eventually returned him to India on March 1, 2019, after holding him captive for almost 60 hours.

DRDO & Indian Air Force Carry Out Successful Flight Tests of Indigenously-Developed Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon

Two flight tests of indigenously-developed smart anti-airfield weapon have been carried out jointly by Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Air Force (IAF). The two different configurations based on satellite navigation and electro optical sensors have been successfully tested. Electro optical seeker based flight test of this class of bomb has been conducted for the first time in the country. The electro optic sensor has been developed indigenously. The weapon was launched by an IAF aircraft from Chandan ranges at Jaisalmer, Rajasthan on October 28, 2021 and November 03, 2021.

Key approvals of procurement from domestic sources include twelve Light Utility Helicopters from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL); Lynx U2 Fire Control System from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) which will enhance the detection tracking and engagement capabilities of Naval war ships and Mid Life Upgradation of the Dornier Aircraft from HAL to increase the Naval capacity of maritime reconnaissance and coastal surveillance.
