J&K: 3 Terrorists gunned down by security forces during an encounter in Shopian

Top 9 Terrorists Killed, Only 3 Commanders Left in Kashmir

Defence sources on Thursday claimed that the Indian Army has killed nine of the 12 top terrorists in the Kashmir Valley in the last 12 months. They said only three top commanders are left and they are high on the security forces’s hit list.

“Top nine terrorists have been killed by security forces in the last 12 months while the remaining three are high on our hit list, army sources said, adding that they will be in their grip soon.

The sources claimed the people in Kashmir are alienated because of the terrorists and their activities, including killing of local civilians and those working with Jammu and Kashmir Police. They said this alienation is leading to the terrorists’ own destruction.

In the last one year, terrorists in Kashmir have targeted people like Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz Parray and several other defence personnel while they were on leave. Sources claimed that these cases have led to alienation of locals and the support they enjoyed earlier is waning across the Valley.

In the last 10 months, a total of 234 terrorists have been killed by the army and other security forces.

The influence zone of the terrorists has now been limited to only 100 square kilometre in and around Srinagar, including areas such as Kulgam, Budgam and Shopian, sources said. They added that if one looks at places like Bandipura, Sopore and Baramulla, the influence and support for terrorists has almost vanished.

Army sources said killing people and spreading videos on social media has worked against them [terrorists] as the locals do not want their state to be turned into an ISIS-like territory.
