VP Venkaiah Naidu Conferred with Highest Civilian Honour of Comoros

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu is on the official visit of Comoros and Sierra Leone from 10 October to 14 October. India and Comoros have signed six agreements, including defence cooperation and health. India will give USD 2 million lines of credit to Comoros.

The Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu has conferred with Comoros’ highest civilian honour ‘The Order of the Green Crescent’ on 12 October 2019. He was given this honour by Comoros President Azali Assoumani.

Vice President M. Naidu tweeted that I am feeling extremely honoured to receive the country’s highest civilian honour ‘The Order of the Green Crescent’ on 12 October 2019 from Comoros President Azali Assoumani in Moroni.

The Order of the Green Crescent

Comoros’ highest civilian honour is’ The Order of the Green Crescent ‘. This honour was actually started by a Turkish organization. This honour was started in the year 1920. The aim of this organization is to ban de-addiction and drugs.

India and Comoros have signed important MoUs in the fields of defence cooperation, education, health and culture. Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu said that both countries have decided that there would be no need to take visa on diplomatic and government passports for a short period.

Line of Credit to Comoros

The Vice President announced financial assistance from India for Comoros. The Vice President’s announcement includes one million US dollars for medicine and medical equipment and one million US dollars for transportation development and the auto industry.

The Vice President has also announced a line-of-credit of USD 41.6 million to set up an 18 MW power plant and vocational training centre in Moroni. The Vice President will reach Sierra Leone on 12 October 2019 in the second leg of his visit.

Addressed Parliament

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu also addressed Parliament in Moroni, the capital state of Comoros. The Vice President, while addressing the Parliament, said that despite so much political stability and peaceful changes in Comoros, terrorism has threatened the development. Now, is the time when the world should become united against terrorism.
