Every life on this earth is a manifestation of the Life-Force. This Life-Force is called Prana in Sanskrit. In Oriental Medicine and many other various healing traditions this is refereed as Chi or Qi. This Life Force is not a chemical composition, nor is it instinctual or blind in its actions. Prana, as defined by yogis and Rishis, is the unfathomable natural intelligence, that has created the entire universe, its many worlds and creatures. Prana carries all the wisdom of the universe, the body and the mind.
Prana creates the body in all its perfection from the cellular level, guiding it through all the evolutionary and growth process. It is the basic of all healing and rejuvenation.
The term, Prana comes from the Sanskrit root, ‘an’ which means ‘to breathe’. It is the ‘an’ from which the related Greek term ‘animus’ or ‘soul’ arise. To this root, is added the prefix ‘pra’ meaning ‘prior’. Prana, is the fundamental propulsive force that drives all the activities in the universe. This is rooted in the consciousness. We can summarize it by saying, Prana is the breathe of God.
Prana is responsible for the energy that is created which sustains and operates our physical body. The Pranic field, extents to an area about 12 inches from the body and forms our aura. Maintaining, the proper flow of the Pranic field is mandatory to have a healthy living.
Prana and Healthy Living
Prana, the energy of life is the primary force of healing. All methods of healing involves bringing more Prana into the body through the different vehicles or modalities. The food that we eat carries the physically concentrated Prana which is extracted during the process of digestion. Herbs stimulate or strengthen the Prana to carry our different bodily functions like sweating, circulation, urination, and elimination. They also stimulate the healing effect. Therapeutic practitioner can convey the healing force to the patient. The process of counseling, involves putting the client in constant contact with healing awareness, knowledge and emotional strength, the life-wisdom of the counselor.
There are many avenues, through which Prana enters our body during the course of our daily life and activities. The most obvious is while we breathe. The process of respiration brings in much needed prana to our body. Eating food is another heavier method to bring in a form of Prana. The skin also soaks Prana, and has its own process of respiration. All our sensory organs can bring in some or other form of Prana and stimulate our vital energy in different ways. The mind, brings Prana or life energy as an emotion or thought.
Similarly, the different forms of elimination of toxins of waste from our body purifies the Prana. Whether it is the discharge of mucus from the nose, exhaled breathe from the legs, sweating, urination and feces, Prana is cleansed and renewed through these processes.
