Principal, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute Darjeeling Get Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award (Second Time)for Life Time Achievements

On 05 Nov 2021 , the MINISTRY OF YOUTH AFFAIR AND SPORT, GOI confirmed the name of Gp Capt Jai Kishan for the TENZING NORGAY NATIONAL ADVENTURE AWARD FOR LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENTS.

This is the first time that an armed forces officer is receiving the prestigious TENZING NORGAY NATIONAL ADVENTURE AWARD for the second time by the president of India in a ceremony being planned at RASHTRAPATI BHAWAN on 13 Nov 2021. In year 2010, the officer received the said award for Aero Sports Category for setting a World Record for undertaking Skydiving Jump over the base of Mt. Everest. However , this year the Ministry has recognized his life time contribution for the supporting the youth to pursue adventure sports.

Gp Capt Jai Kishan is presently posted as Principal, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute Darjeeling. He is an avid Parachute Jump Instructor and a qualified mountaineer. He holds Six World Records, One Asian Record and Six National Records in the field of Adventure Sports. In last twenty years he has undertaken more than 2000 parachute jumps in India and abroad.
He has also trained more than twenty thousand para jumpers (organized more than Eighty thousands jumps for Special forces , led IAF Skydiving teams , climbed various mountains in India & abroad and trained more than three thousand mountaineers and adventure enthusiasts.
He is a man of vision and always comes up with unique ideas and out-of-the box concept. Besides his personal achievement he has also motivated youth of the country to pursue adventure sports and in the process, he has also promoted Indian Culture. He makes it a point to follow eco friendly practices in whatever activities he is engaged in and makes an effort to instill love for nature among the other participants and promoting “green mountain clean mountain campaign.
His present achievement includes World Record and national records for Skydiving on Mt. Everest, Cycle Expedition from Marsimik la ( PangogTso lake 186400 feet) and Kibitoo ( Arunachal-China Border), Inverted Parachute formation at Rajpath, India Gate, performing Vinyasa Yoga atop Mt. Elbrus (18600 ft), the highest mountain in European Sub-continent, Under the banner of AZADI KA AMRUT MAHOTSAV he trained 250 youths from Darjeeling and formed a Disaster Response Team to provide timely assistance at the time of disasters. He also conceived and successfully organized 75 hours of relay Surya Namaskar in Jan 2021 which, with more than 250000 Surya Namaskar repetition by 250 participants, set a World Record of highest number of Surya Namaskar repetition within a stipulated time.
During Covid 19 pandemic he successfully planned and rescued 125 mountaineers from Sikkim Himalayas and kept them at HMI for more than two months.
During, April 2021 he successfully led a Climb-a-thon expedition to four peaks in Sikkim Himalayas in which 125 trainee mountaineers climbed four peaks in 125 hours and unfurled the gigantic Indian National Flag measuring 7500 sq. ft. atop Mt. Rhenok in Sikkim Himalayas. While the number 125 marked the 125th Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, the size of the flag, i.e. 7500 sq. ft. symbolized the 75 Glorious Years of India’s Independence.
For his outstanding contribution for promotion of adventure sports, bringing glory to the nation at International Level, displaying outstanding leadership amidst crises, saving human lives from hostile environments rescue missions and instilling patriotism among youth , Gp Capt Jai Kishan is presented with Tenzing Norgay National Award 2020 for his lie time contribution.
