MoU Signed by Taiwan’s PIDA and India’s ICEA – Make in India

The objective of this MOU is to promote mutual cooperation, facilitate collaborations in fields of newer technologies relating to but not limited to display, optoelectronics etc., exchange of experiences, initiation of reports and studies relating to innovations and applications of innovations in varied sectors across electronics and promotion of such technologies to address pertinent problems being faced by humanity in both these countries

New Delhi: Photonics Industry & Technology Development Association (PIDA) of Taiwan backed by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Taiwan signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), which is the apex industry body representing the electronics and mobile industry eco-system in India on 18th October’19 in Taipei.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Kenneth Tai, Chairman – PIDA and Mr. Bijesh Kumar Roul, Director and Special Assistant to Chairman, ICEA. Mr. Tai is a noted industry veteran in Taiwan who is also the co-founder of Acer, Board Member – ASUS, Chairman – Jasper, Board Member – TVS Electronics India amongst many hats which he wears.

The objective of this MOU is to promote mutual cooperation, facilitate collaborations in fields of newer technologies relating to but not limited to display, optoelectronics etc., exchange of experiences, initiation of reports and studies relating to innovations and applications of innovations in varied sectors across electronics and promotion of such technologies to address pertinent problems being faced by humanity in both these countries, organising various events with the participation of important stakeholders in both these countries which fulfill the larger objective to promote industrial collaboration between India and Taiwan.

“PIDA – ICEA MoU is a very welcome development. PIDA is promoting optoelectronics, electro-optics, heterogeneous materials and digital optics. Digital Optics will especially be a cutting-edge technology as it would be the future of optics”, said Kenneth Tai, Chairman, PIDA.

Mr. Tai further added,“PIDA will act as a bridge in this platform which has been created through this MoU and Indian industry can approach over two thousand Taiwanese photonics companies as per PIDA’s membership base such as Largan, Epistar, Liteon, Everlight, Asia Optics .”

Mr. Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman, ICEAmentioned “It is a very important development in India – Taiwan industrial collaboration efforts. ICEA has been closely working with the Taiwanese industry stakeholders during the past 10 years or more to promote the establishment of mobile and electronics manufacturing eco-system in the country and it had always remained our considered and sincere desire to see closer and collaborative partnership approach between Indian and Taiwanese industry stakeholders in various aspects of electronics eco-system. While ICEA’s pioneering efforts have already led to the development of significant manufacturing growth in the mobile handset and its components manufacturing eco-system in India, the focus will also be towards the development of display, optoelectronics, lithium-ion cell as well as the development of newer technologies.”

The MoU will also facilitate and strengthen the exchange of information and experiences in the development of optoelectronic technology in India through the participation of Taiwanese companies which can fully support the flagship Make in India and Design in India programs of the Government of India undertaken under the leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India.

The MoU further enables the two sides to exchange information on the photoelectric market and industry trends of the two countries and promote and encourage industrial upgrading of each other’s regions. Coupled with corporate joint ventures or technical cooperation, the knowledge-based industries in both the regions are encouraged to enhance promotion and support meetings or events in the areas of technical cooperation and trade partnerships between the two countries.

It is envisaged that the PIDA – ICEA MoU will significantly work towards strengthening the flagship programs of both the countries in terms of supporting Taiwan’s Southward policy as well as Make in India and Design in India of the Indian Government.
