New Delhi: Train delays and long waits due to technical snags might soon be a thing of past as Indian Railways has launched an application “OHE Inspection”. The app will allow railway personnel to quickly detect defects and fix technical snags.
According to the Railway Ministry, the OHE Inspection app will capture in real-time OHE (Overhead Equipment) defects and send out quick alerts. It has been launched across the country and has features such as GPS tracking of patrolman, real-time capturing of OHE defects and clicking photographs.
The development comes a month after the national transporter announced that achieved 100 per cent punctuality of trains. It was the first time ever in Indian Railways’ history that it achieved the milestone. Railways had ordered all of its zones to ensure 100 per cent punctuality in the running of 230 special trains, which is less than two per cent of the 13,000 trains that normally run on the entire network.
News agency ANI in a tweet cited the national transporter saying, “First time ever in the history of Indian Railways, 100% punctuality of trains achieved, with all trains on time. Previous best was 99.54% on 23.06.2020 with one train getting delayed.”
Railway Board Chairman V K Yadav had instructed all general managers, divisional railway managers and all zones to ensure that the 15 pairs of Rajdhani special trains and 100 pairs of passenger trains maintain their schedule without any delays. Yadav further said that since the number of trains being run on the network is currently small, the punctuality has to be 100 per cent.
The normal schedule of railways remains curtailed in wake of coronavirus restrictions. All passenger train services remain suspended till August 12. The trains include regular time-tabled mail or express trains and suburban rail services across the country.
However, the railway ministry has said that the special Rajdhani trains that started from May 12, will be functional. The railways also introduced 200 special mail and express train services for passengers during the lockdown, starting from June 1. Those trains will remain operational till August 12, 2020, it added.
