ISRO to Launch GSAT-20 in Mid-2020 Which will Provide High-Speed Internet of 100 Gbps to India’s Remote Areas

“Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has planned to launch mega next-generation high-throughput satellites GSAT-20 by mid next year. This Satellite would tackle the country’s connectivity issues,” said a Top officer of Department of Sapce (DoS) on 28 November, 2019.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is planning to launch mega GSAT-20 satellite by June 2020 which will provide the high-speed internet of 100 Gbps or more to India’s rural and remote areas.

“Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has planned to launch mega next-generation high-throughput satellites GSAT-20 by mid next year. This Satellite would tackle the country’s connectivity issues,” said a Top officer of Department of Sapce (DoS) on 28 November, 2019.

During the talk at India Satcom conference organised by Broadband India Forum (BIF), ISRO chief K Sivan also said, “GSAT-20 is to be planned in mid-2020. Next-generation high throughput satellites will address connectivity issues”.

GSAT-20

GSAT stands for ‘Geo synchronous Satellites’ and GSAT-20 is a part of GSAT series satellites developed by ISRO. GSAT-20 is the second five-tonne class satellite after GSAT-11. It will be the second heaviest satellite built by ISRO.
Importance of GSAT-20:

  • GSAT-20 will provide high-speed internet in rural areas of India.
  • It is also expected to provide inflight internet connectivity.
  • The launch of GSAT-20 will help in Government of India’s ‘Digital India’ programme.
  • It will give boost high-speed communication technologies of India.
