NEW DELHI: Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) on Monday started the online process for applications for the second session of ‘YUva VIgyani KAryakram’ scheduled to be held in May.
The programme, scheduled from May 11 to 22, is aimed at imparting basic knowledge on space technology, space science and space applications to the younger generation with the intent of arousing their interest in emerging areas of space activities. Three students each from each state/UT will be selected to participate in the programme, which will include students’ visit to Isro facilities and labs, exclusive sessions for discussion with space experts, practical and feedback sessions.
The online registration will be open from February 3 to 24. Those who have finished VIII standard and currently studying in Class IX (2019-20) will be eligible for the programme. Even Overseas Citizen of India students can apply for it. The selection is based on the Class VIII academic performance and extracurricular activities.
Students will get an opportunity to go to Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Thiruvananthapuram, which specialises in rocket technology and U R Rao Satellite Centre, Bangalore, where satellites are developed. They will also be taken to the Sriharikota launch centre.
Besides YUVIKA, Isro is also working on setting up six incubation centres and the same number of R&D centres across the country. Isro chief K Sivan had told TOI, “These incubation and R&D centres will give a platform to young minds to use their talent in the field of space research and technology.”
