Indian Textiles Get Huge Response from International Buyers at the ICC Meet

Textiles, apparels, garments, and Khadi witness a huge response from international buyers in the first day of the innovative Virtual Buyer Seller Meet organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) here on Monday.

Kolkata,(UNI) Textiles, apparels, garments, and Khadi witness a huge response from international buyers in the first day of the innovative Virtual Buyer Seller Meet organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) here on Monday. Under the three-day global online L2G (local to global) exhibition for Indian textile sector products under Atma Nirbhar Bharat Campaign that begun today, ICC brings about an opportunity to showcase an exquisite collection of Indian textiles by MSMEs to the global diaspora of buyers.

The inaugural session was graced by Sadhan Pande, State Minister-in-Charge, Self Help Group and Self Employment Department, as the Chief Guest who stated, “Its only through production that one can increase his earnings and save his family, especially in this troublesome times when a situation of constant salary and rise in prices of goods are affecting economies all over the world”.

While the SHG Department, Government of West Bengal remains committed to encourage its youth and womenfolk toward active participation in production thereby ensuring adequate supply in the system, he mentioned buyer seller meets such as this will ensure better prices for sellers and artisans in the sector.

In the program backed by the Indian Missions in the Middle East, Europe and the US.,H.E Dr. Aman Puri, Consul General Consulate General of India, Dubai, UAE said that a niche has been created for exports in Dubai and that the Dubai consulate is looking forward to supporting Indian exporters in the textile sector.

Special Guest, Dr. Srikar K. Reddy, Joint Secretary (WANA) Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India stated that textiles exports stood at USD 39 billion in 2019-20 contributing significantly to overall trade and that cooperation with the African and Middle Eastern nations can boost textile exports further.

“Virtual buyer seller meets in the sector are extremely important as it will showcase the inherent strengths of Textiles from India that will promote the fine artistry of weavers in the country. This will be a huge boon to not just the weavers and textile sector players in India in terms of providing them international exposure but also help the international community to increase their understanding of Indian textiles sector through the virtual B2B meetings and doing business with India”, said Dr. Rajeev Singh, Director General, Indian Chamber of Commerce.

On the occasion, Sanjay Jain Chairman, ICC National Expert Committee on Textiles spoke that the mindset of buyers and sellers have changed than earlier and the highl efficient, low cost and time saving nature of virtual platforms are attracting more buyers and sellers in the textile sector.
