India today test-fired high speed interceptor missile Prithvi Defence Vehicle (PDV) against an electronic target from a defence facility off Odisha coast.

The anti-ballistic missile developed by Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) is capable of destroying enemy weapons at high altitude.

Defence sources said that the data generated during the mission are being analysed.

The interceptor was launched from launch complex-IV of Abdul Kalam Island, earlier known as Wheeler Island, of the Integrated Test Range (ITR).

Worth mentioning, PDV is capable of killing an incoming missile with a strike range of around 2000 km outside the earth’s atmosphere.
Earlier in September last year, a night trial of the mission was conducted for engaging the targets in exo-atmosphere region.
