Afghanistan received about 120,000 tons of goods via the Chabahar Port in Iran over the last fourteen months. Chabahar Port in Iran has been partially funded by India to enhance trade with landlocked Afghanistan bypassing arch-foe Pakistan.
The majority of commodities to the southeastern Iranian Port of Chabahar have been wheat and cereal, stated Iran’s deputy head of Ports and Maritime Organization Mohammad-Ali Hassanzadeh.
Using the Iranian port, India trades almost 15 million tons of goods with Russia and commonwealth of independent states (CIS). Such transits are considered as part of Chabahar Agreement which was reached between Iran, India and Afghanistan.
