The rural development ministry has drawn up a rundown of 200 items that will be sold on e-commerce platforms, including the Government e-Marketplace (GeM). The ministry has held hands with Tata Trusts to set up a not-for-profit organization under Section 25 of Companies Act to give professional support to rural artisans to sell their items globally.
As per senior government authority, “they are setting up bunches or producer companies by acquiring individuals making similar items”.
A few handicrafts and handloom items, for example, Madhubani painting from Bihar, tribal paintings from Jharkhand, terracotta items from Rajasthan and tussar silk wear from Bhagalpur, made by rural craftsmans, mostly women entrepreneurs, are as of now being sold online via Amazon and Flipkart.
The govt is currently quick to grow the initiative as a part of the 100-day plan in the second term of the Narendra Modi government. The items identified by the government could incorporate stationery items, like folders, pen holders and gift things.
The plan incorporates engaging expert photographers and content writers to guarantee items featured on e-commerce platforms have a story to advise to make them increasingly appealing to buyers
