NEW DELHI: Boosting the country’s efforts in tackling cybercrime, Union home minister Rajnath Singh and LG Anil Baijal on Monday inaugurated the state-of-the-art National Cyber Forensic Lab and Delhi Police’s cybercrime unit ‘CyPAD’ at Dwarka Sector 16.
The lab, to be accessed by Delhi Police’s Cyber Cell, will have a dedicated training and open-source analytic cell that will monitor social media profiles of suspects to identify them.

NCFL will also be open for other police units of the country. According to Delhi Police commissioner, Amulya Patnaik, this is the first time that such a dedicated cyber lab has been created in the country. “We’ve been looking forward to enhance our cybercrime fighting capabilities and this will be a major push towards setting up a dedicated anti-cybercrime force with capabilities to foil future threats,” said Patnaik.
Called the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), the lab will have equipment’s to deal with memory forensics, image enhancement, network forensics, malware forensics, crypto-currency forensics, recovery of damaged hard drives and advanced mobile forensics.
Special CP (Special Cell) M M Oberoi said the facility is equipped with a Cyber Simulation Training and Open Source Threat Analytics, where students from IITs and other IT institutes can train alongside Delhi Police officers.
Explaining the functioning, cops said the labs have the latest facilities to detect cybercrime, along with its own forensic labs that can be used to analyse evidences in a jiffy. Cops have also been provided with state-of-the-art equipment’s to analyse new threats and hacking technologies. “It is a constant process to upgrade ourselves with new forms of cyber threats. The unit will have the capability to train men to take up this challenge,” said Anyesh Roy, DCP (Cyber Cell).
The lab will also function as an all-India base to deal and coordinate with cyber threats, where nation-wide information will be generated and stored at the National Cyber Reporting Portal. Other state’s police units will have access to the facilities and can get their forensic samples analysed for a quicker probe. Teams stationed at Dwarka Sector 16 will work in coordination with other law-enforcement agencies across the country.
