Mr. Ram Nath Kovind, President, stated that over Rs. 4 lakh crore (US$ 54.82 billion) worth of digitalized exchanges were encouraged by UPI in December 2020 and in excess of 200 banks are connected to the UPI framework”.
Addressing the joint sitting of Parliament on the first day of the Budget meeting, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind stated that the trinity of Jan Dhan Accounts, Aadhaar and Mobile (JAM) has helped defend the privileges of individuals and Rs. 1.8 lakh crore (US$ 24.67 billion) have been saved from falling into wrong hands.
Mr. Kovid said, “While keeping up the prerequisite of ‘Do Gaj ki Doori’, the organizations and residents of our country didn’t permit the speed of development to loosen, by utilizing the force of Digital India. In December 2020, advanced exchanges of more than Rs. 4,00,000 crore (US$ 54.82 billion) have been done through UPI.”
Mr. Kovind noted that Digilocker is being used as a paperless platform for more than 400 crore digital documents, and crores of citizens are availing more than 2,000 services through the Umang App.
Mr. Kovid said, the government has additionally started digitisation of medical services through the ‘Rashtriya Digital Health Mission’. The people will have the option to avail facilities like digital appointments, digital reports as well as digital health records through this mission in the coming days.
President also highlighted that Production Linked Incentive Scheme worth about Rs. 1.5 lakh crore (US$ 20.56 billion) are implemented in 10 manufacturing sectors.
The President expressed that the nation once had just two manufacturing plants producing mobiles, while today, India is the second biggest producer of cell phones.
‘Vocal For Local’ has become a people’s development in the country, he added. Endeavours are being made to teach people about the emotional attachment for goods manufactured but in India the quality for products is given high priority.
