Conservation of Ancient Folk Cultures

To protect, preserve & promote various forms of folk art and ancient folk cultures throughout the country including Jharkhand, Bihar and Kerala, the Government of India has set up seven Zonal Cultural Centres (ZCCs) with headquarters at Patiala, Nagpur, Udaipur, Prayagraj, Kolkata, Dimapur and Thanjavur. Jharkhand is the member State of Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC), Kolkata; Bihar is the member State of North Central Zone Cultural Centre (NCZCC), Prayagraj and Kerala is the member State of South Zone Cultural Centre (SZCC), Thanjavur.

KVIC Brings Alive 1000-yrs Old Monpa Handmade Paper Industry in Tawang

Apart from handmade paper, Tawang is known for two other local crafts – handmade pottery and handmade furniture – that are also getting extinct with passage of time. KVIC Chairman announced that within six months plans will be rolled out for revival of these two local arts. “Revival of handmade pottery will be taken up on priority under Kumhar Sashaktikaran Yojana very soon,” Saxena said.

Early Humans Lived in Northern India 80,000 Years Ago

An archaeological excavation carried out in the trenches at Dhaba in the upper Son river valley in central India has found evidence of human occupation in this area almost 80,000 years ago. The international team of researchers found evidence of the continuous presence of humans in this region between 80,000 years ago and 65,000 years ago.
