DRDO Conducts Maiden Trial of Python-5 Air to Air Missile

Tejas, India’s indigenous Light Combat Aircraft, added the 5th generation Python-5 Air-to-Air Missile (AAM) in its air-to-air weapons capability on April 27, 2021. Trials were also aimed to validate enhanced capability of already integrated Derby Beyond Visual Range (BVR) AAM on Tejas. The test firing at Goa completed a series of missile trials to validate its performance under extremely challenging scenarios. Derby missile achieved direct hit on a high-speed maneuvering aerial target and the Python missiles also achieved 100% hits, thereby validating their complete capability. The trials met all their planned objectives.

Navy to Get Aircraft Carrier Vikrant, Missile Destroyer Visakhapatnam in 2021

Powered by General Electric turbines, INS Vikrant will carry two squadrons of MiG-29K fighters and 10 Kamov Ka -31 helicopters. The aircraft carrier strike force will have a range of over 15000 kilometre with Barak surface to air missile to give aerial protection to the vessel. INS Visakhapatnam’s main attack weapon is anti-ship and land attack BrahMos cruise missiles apart from torpedos for anti-submarine warfare.

DRDO Develops Single Crystal Blades for Helicopter Engine Application

Helicopters used in strategic and defence applications need compact and powerful aero-engines for their reliable operation at extreme conditions. To achieve this, state-of-the-art Single Crystal Blades having complex shape and geometry, manufactured out of Nickel based superalloys capable of withstanding high temperatures of operation are used. Very few countries in the world such as USA, UK, France and Russia have the capability to design and manufacture such Single Crystal (SX) components.

Army Sets Up Solar Power Plant at Jalandhar Cantt

The solar power project spans across 5 acres of land and has been constructed at a cost of Rs 5.16 crore. Under this project, a total of 3,176 solar panels of Indian origin have been set up to generate 1 MW of solar energy. The plant would generate at least 15 lakh units of electricity annually or about 1.25 lakh units per month, amounting to approximate saving of Rs 1 crore annually to the government exchequer.
